This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are eager curious outliers in a predominantly Hispanic neighborhood. Golf is not a sport that most of their fellow students gravitate toward. Therefore, they are a very special group of kids. Our Golf teams are comprised of a maximum of 12 girls and 12 boys from 14 to 18 years of age. Swinging a golf club, walking a golf course and learning how to play and compete against other schools is personally and uniquely satisfying for each of them.

Watching the students’ overcome frustration is amazing!

Swinging and missing. Hitting the ground instead of the ball. Missing a putt from one foot. These are the true OverComers!

Golf can make you a little nutty but the upside of what kids learn is priceless--Honesty, perseverance, integrity, self-regulation, and sportsmanship; self-reporting scores for others and themselves. WoW!

My Project

Recently, our nearest Golf course for practice has closed to become a beautiful future local Botanical Garden.

To practice the Golf swing...whew..need lots of practice, the students need some range time.

We cannot economically get to the range, so the range is coming to us.

We are in need of boxes of BIRDIE BALLS so we can practice on school grounds.

We are in need of Golf strike mats to demonstrate and practice alignment path of swing.

Lastly, because of weight and limited transportation space of players and equipment, our Golfers are in need of 14 (7 for Girls, 7 for Boys) smaller club carrying bags for practice at the golf course and school tournaments.

Thank you for your help! When you can, go swing a golf club and you will know that wonder of challenge and success...what our kids are feeling!!
