My Students
Physical Education is important to all students! While in PE, students learn about the individual skills in a game, but also life skills as well. As a K-5 PE teacher, my students have different skill levels. My job is to make sure students have the opportunity to play and experience a wide variety of games, build relationships with their peers, and create a sense of community as well as MOVING and having FUN!
Students are better learners when they are active learners!
When students have the chance to play on a daily basis, they are able to experience physical activity in a positive way.
Many of our students don't have the opportunity to participate in activities outside of the traditional school. We have a large population of free/reduced lunch students at our school. Many of them do not get to participate in sports outside of school. Our PE program offers our students a change to experience many of new lessons/activities in a fun and safe environment! Every student deserves the opportunity to participate in activities in PE class they may not get outside of the school setting.
My Project
Students ability to use the Flex Playground balls as well as the plastic softballs will help them develop their manipulative skills. Students will be able to demonstrate their hand - eye coordination as well as dexterity. It is important to allow students to use different objects to throw. Students can learn and understand the difference between weight and diameter and how they affect throwing distances and velocity. Using a variety of objects to catch, students are able to learn how to catch without the fear of being hurt. Softer and smaller objects will not hurt/harm the student. The bright colors of the balls will help students be able to track them visually as well.
Throwing and catching skills will improve as students get older!
Students will more successful as they continue to practice these skills in physical education class and outside of school with teammates and friends.
