This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

At the end of the school year I want my students to have a love for learning that no one can take away.

I am a 2nd grade teacher to 18 amazing souls.

Located in an impoverished and often overlooked community in the city, my students are already at a disadvantage. Yet, with a spirit of perseverance and a love for learning, they manage to uplift and challenge each other daily and in the midst inspire me. My school is an underfunded public school with no supplementary funds for necessities (i.e. books).

My Project

I am the teacher of an amazing 2nd grade classroom. If you know anything about me it is my passion for my students and instilling a love and enthusiasm for learning. Unfortunately we are lacking essential materials-BOOKS. With a request full of a wide range of leveled, quality books, you will be assisting me in jumpstarting my library and influenceing the overall access my students would have to literature. Using a guided reading frame students will use these books to read at their levels, be pushed for level appropriate proficiency, and ultimately gain skills to soar to higher reading levels. Weekly students will be given a set of books at their reading levels (A-Z), based upon assessment. They will receive books in accordance to this, as they master certain differentiated skills they will be reassessed and have the capacity to move up in reading proficiency and access a new set of books. These reading levels are based off of vocabulary, text features,and greater comprehension skills.

If you spent a day in my classroom you would know why I am so passionate about my students.

With the addition of these books I believe the reading levels will soar as students will be self-motivated to read these great titles.
