My Students

Give the opportunity to children to enjoy a classroom filled with books that will excite, motivate, and improve their reading.

I teach 26 third grade children ranging in age from 8 to 9 years old.

My students come from various social economic backgrounds. My students come from low income families. They come from homes where parents are in the home, trying their best to raise their children in a neighborhood that has gang related problems daily. There are students that don't have either parent and are either with a foster family or with a relative. Either way, they come to class eager to learn, which is why I wouldn't want anything more but to enhance their excitement for education through a new selection of read aloud books, a subscription to Time for Kids and Scholastic News. My students are the true definition of children eager to learn. These group of students make me fall in love with reading over and over again because of their enthusiasm for books. These students are excited and eager to read and to be read to.

My Project

The resources I chose for my students are a set of specially selected read aloud books to be used to introduce or review a specific subject matter. I am also asking for subscriptions to Time for Kids and Scholastic News. By having these new resources, I will be able to provide my students with books and magazines that are ideal for both a read aloud or independent reading. Read aloud books are important for older students as well because they will be exposed to rich vocabulary that these specific books provide. TIME For Kids and Scholastic News are engaging classroom magazines that will serve as a vital non fiction resource. Students will be exposed to a variety of themes, topics and current events. Nonfiction literacy skills supports the Common Core State Standards which is an important area for my students.

The impact that you will have on my students is vital.

The most challenging part of teaching is motivating my students to want to learn. If I could engage them with a new selection of read alouds and magazines then I could get them to become excited about their own learning. That is the most rewarding part of teaching; seeing your students excited about their own learning.
