My Students
Imagine if you were not able to communicate with others in a way where you could be understood. Many of my students enter pre-k with limited language, math and developmental skills that must be nurtured.
"Childhood is a journey....not a race. Allow each child time to explore, to play, to learn."
My students are a group of 20 boys and girls from very mixed backgrounds.
All of my students come from families who want the best for their children. Our school is a Title I community school, of approximately 650 students. My students are excited about learning and earning "BRAIN WRINKLES" each and every day. They are full of energy and enthusiasm and all possess a really inquisitive nature. They are also a very caring group of children who are compassionate and giving to one another. They are, above all else, 4 year old children who need to learn through discovery, experience, play, and through a variety of learning materials and manipulatives.
My Project
In my classroom, children learn through small group mini-lessons followed by a large amount of time in cooperative group literacy, math, and developmental stations. The materials I have requested will be used to develop the standards my students must master. The tweezer tongs sorting kit will develop fine motor skills and math concepts, the snap building sticks and block play people will also develop necessary fine motor skills and creativity. The alphabet materials will promote engagement in learning and development of the alphabetic principle. The 3 math materials I have requested will promote counting and cardinality. At the beginning of the year, my students will be taught to value their classroom and school community, as well as each other. They will work together to learn. I will be there to scaffold instruction, teach small groups, individualize instruction, and nurture the development of each child. By the end of pre-k, I will have a room full of children who love learning.
Donations to this project will make a difference by giving my students new and creative ways to learn the common core standards.
Through the use of these twelve hands-on materials, all of my students will connect with the standards and thrive in the learning process. The students will emerge from pre-k as smart, well rounded and appreciative little people, who will grow into those same type of adults. Through donations to our project, you will enrich lives and promote a love of learning.
