My Students

My new school is located in Washington DC and serves students with high socioeconomic needs. Students who attend my school bring with them their heritages from Ethiopia, Central America, along with other nationalities. The needs of my students are great and I see a lot of opportunity to bring academic resources into my school that will give students a more accessible, purposeful and engaging academic experience.

With the end of the current school year approaching, I am already thinking of the 2017/2018 school year and what I would like to do differently.

It is my hope that in the new school year, I can teach history as a dynamic STORY through the use of high-quality non-fiction texts.

My Project

The non-fiction texts that I am hoping to receive donations for would allow students to really feel like researchers as they learn while they research a variety of fascinating topics from the American Revolution to Ancient Civilizations and more!

Over the course of the year, I have been visiting our local library to provide students with non-fiction texts about a variety of Social Studies topics.

I have been doing this in order to give my students access to high-quality non-fiction texts. At times, my public library doesn't have enough or has no resources related to a topic that we are studying. Throughout the course of the year, there have been many times when I wanted to give students books to learn from instead of print-outs from the internet.

Your donations would not only help students access high-quality texts, but would also help several students learn better in Social Studies through the use of fidgets that aid in concentration and attentiveness.
