This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

What I love most about my students is their compassion, creativity, and strong sense of purpose. They aren’t just learning academic skills—they’re growing into empathetic, community-minded leaders. Their enthusiasm for helping others inspires me every day, and their willingness to take on real-world problems shows how powerful young voices can be when given the tools and support to lead.

This classroom food pantry project is a beautiful example of project-based learning in action.

Each resource we receive—especially nonperishable food and essential items—helps my students directly serve others in need. Here’s how each resource helps them learn:

Nonperishable food items: These give students a tangible way to practice empathy and responsibility, while learning about food insecurity and how communities can support one another.

This project integrates reading, writing, math, science, and social studies—and most importantly, it fosters character development. With the right support, these young changemakers will make a real difference in our community.
