My Project
As a Snickers' ad once said, "You're not yourself when you're hungry." My students are lovable moody teenagers, that often come to me for snacks. My students are often hungry coming to school due to lack of resources at home. My school is a Title 1 school and most of the students here receive free or reduced meals. While we can feed them in school, they need to be able to eat nightly and over the weekends so they can come to school ready to learn.
Food is a basic need.
The ask here is for a refrigerator and freezer for the school pantry. This will service not just the students I work with directly but ALL the students at the school who are in need. Many donation sites require that we have a refrigerator and freezer to store donations that maybe leftover to avoid waste, we need your help securing these items. If we can help our students and their families by being able to send home food that is meal worthy, we can help supply that basic need. Currently donations we are able to receive mainly consist of just bread. I am requesting the refrigerator and freezer for real food for my students, so that can feel seen and know they are cared about holistically. I want them to be able to have meals to take home that include frozen dinners, fresh fruits and vegetables and more.
While parents are the first caretakers of children, teachers and school staff are primarily the second. Sometimes the adults in the lives of children just need a bit of caretaking too. If we can help with the weight of caretaking by sending food home to help, then we are still taking care of ALL of our children.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
