My Students

Our students are diverse learners in every meaning of the word.

Our class is in a charter school that was created in order to combat the segregation happening in the local public schools.

My students are all beautifully unique, just like our city, and many of them often come to school in need of more than just academics.

They are a group of students who are eager to learn and love being at school-a place where they know they can count on their safety, security, and being loved. My students are capable of great things-every day I tell them, "I expect excellence from you because I know that you are excellent!" At school, we all work hard as a diverse community to give each other respect and support. Every student can be successful when they are given the right environment and tools to do so!

My Project

Please consider supporting our classroom! Our classroom is brimming with a diverse student population. In our school, more than half of these students are unfortunately struggling to get their basic needs met. A critical need in our classroom is food. Almost my whole class comes into our room in the morning hungry, and many of them have no snacks for throughout the day. Our school is in the heart of Kansas City and is a place where all students are welcomed, secure, safe, and familiar with a routine.

As research tells us, students cannot function at school until their basic needs have been met.

One of the most basic needs that children have is the need for nutrition. Our students can get breakfast and lunch at school every day, but many students come to school hungry and go home to barren pantries and refrigerators. In an effort to reduce the hunger students can experience, I provide my students with snacks in the morning and afternoon. I would give anything for my students-just like any teacher would-but no one person can do it alone. If you would consider helping us by providing monetary support for snacks, our classroom would greatly appreciate it. Thank you in advance for helping us to stay full, focused, and ready to learn at school.
