Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach 27 Pre-K students, in a low income/high poverty school in which more than 60% of the students receive free or reduced price meals. Although we request parent donations for snacks, I know only a handful are able to send snacks to school.
My duty as a teacher is to always seek ways to keep my students engaged in learning while providing a safe and enjoyable environment, as well as meeting their basic needs.
Therefore, I do what I can to meet the needs of every child, including the provision of their basic need - food.
My Project
I am asking for fifteen different snacks including a case of Tiny Twists Pretzels, two cases Knotts Berry Farm® Raspberry Cookies, two cases of Sensible Portions Veggie Straws, and two cases of Grandma's Mini Vanilla Creme Cookies. A donation of snacks to my Pre-K students will improve our classroom in many ways.
Children need to be able to refuel throughout the day to maintain energy and focus on academics; that's where snacking comes in.
Snacks are especially crucial for children because they are still growing. Healthy snacking at school can lead to better nutrition during foundational years. Children may need to fill certain nutrient gaps left by meals. Snacks will provide increased energy and ability to focus.
Unfortunately, snacks are not provided by our district and very few parents send snacks for their children as they are economically challenged. Pre-K students should be having fun learning, and should not be worrying about whether their parents sent a snack or not.
My students attend Pre-K full day. It is a very long day for these young 4-5-year-olds, and they get really hungry. Please help me reach the students by making sure they have a snack every day.
