Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Most mornings I spend the first few minutes checking in with each student to see where their school brain is. Are they hungry, sad, angry, or embarrassed? What can I do to put that first smile on their face and switch their brain into learning mode?

My students are a group of hard-working kids who encounter everyday situations most adults could never even dream of.

My school works hard to create a community where all families feel welcome and safe. We have an almost 90% free or reduced-price lunch rate, and most years families don't have the financial means to purchase school supplies.

My Project

My students come to school wanting to learn. However, many of these students have more concerns on their mind. They're worried if they'll have a roof over their head tonight, and whether they'll eat today.

My students have the right to have access to the same basic nutritional resources needed to learn like every other student in other schools do!

When they're hungry, their brains are more concerned about hunger pains and where their next meal will come from, than what is being taught.

The snacks I have requested will offer my students the opportunity to refuel their brain. I have a designated snack time built into our daily schedule where students can interact with other students, as well as a chance to refuel.
