My Students
My students are a great group of students who are filled with a lot of energy. My students are a mixture of Brooklyn natives and recent immigrants to the country. My students are currently in a very difficult situation as schools have closed in NYC for the rest of the school year. My students not only depend on school for their education and connections to friends, but also for food from my food pantry that I run out of the school. Many of my students are contacting me asking for support with food during this crisis.
My Project
I am in constant contact with my students as we undertake distance learning. Most of my students have been provided with technology to ensure that they are able to keep up with distance learning. One thing that many of my students are lacking is consistent access to food. Many of my students and their families do not receive any income while not working, no unemployment, no stimulus check, and many are often hesitant to go to food banks due to immigration statuses. I would like to gap that bridge and end food to these families in need. My students can't fully focus on their education when they are worried about their access to food.
