My Students

Teaching 8th grade is such a joy because they are applying their knowledge and what they learn in the classroom to their personal lives. As an educator, I hope to help build a bridge of connections with these young minds who come from a middle to higher socioeconomic area. There is great diversity within my classroom with students suffering from mental instability as well as students with wonderfully stable homes.

My goal is to build a mindful classroom in which students are accountable for their learning while, especially when it can be applied to their life.

My students are well informed and I hope to continue to add to their knowledge while also allowing them to understand other points of view.

My Project

In my English class, I teach many novels including, Nothing But the Truth, the focus is on Patriotism, Farewell to Manzanar, the focus on WWII events here on American soil, and then a Utopian Unit using Animal Farm, Fahrenheit 451, and The Giver. These units create mindful discussions and the shared ideas of the students create an atmosphere of learning.

The Wave is an excellent book to discuss and tie together my reading units with the application of conformity and how easy it is to follow an idea.

The book will hopefully help answer the idea of "I would never allow that" or " That seems too crazy of an idea" and so forth.
