My Students

This year, I am teaching a wonderful group of 30 fourth graders. They are sweet and kind, and they love coming to school to see their friends and learn more each and every day. My school campus is a very positive and upbeat place where everyone works as a team and where the students are the heart of all of our decisions. All of the staff are happy to come to work to see the students learn and grow on a daily basis. I could not ask to teach at a better campus!

My Project

Practicing oral reading fluency is a part of my students' daily routines in reading. They read 2 nonfiction passages per week, and track their progress daily on their own individual data charts.

My students need durable plastic, pronged 2 pocket folders and skinny dry erase markers to be able to keep their fluency passages and data charts in, and so that they can track their progress daily.

They keep the passages that they are reading for the week in a sheet protector that goes inside of the folder. Then they use their expo marker to mark any words on either passage that they do not know how to read yet. They are also timed for 1 minute each day that they read. After they read, they figure out the total number of words that they read, followed by any mistakes (slashed words with the expo marker), and then they subtract those 2 numbers to figure out the total number of words that they read correctly on the passages. When they are finished recording their scores for each day, they erase their marks on each side of the sheet protector so that it's clear again for the next day.

I also want to mention that the folders that my students currently have and are using are falling apart because they are paper folders, which is why I have requested plastic ones because they are more durable. The expo markers that they have are almost all dried up as well because they have been using the same ones since August.

Thank you for taking the time to read about my project for my students.

Budget cuts are real, and being a remote teacher does not make that any easier. Thank you for your support.
