Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
After learning how to make "diorama" fold-out books, I was eager to teach students to do the same. We've had one group of Newcomers create their own books with materials I had in the library, and now other classes are excited to get on the bookmaking train!
We need brightly colored paper and cardstock, fun ribbons and strong glue to make books that beg to be read.
Students love getting the opportunity to let their creative sides shine, and teachers appreciate the hands-on nature of this activity. Bookmaking is great for storytelling, modeling systems in science, and tracking historical time periods in social studies. I'm excited to collaborate with more teachers in my school to make books that demonstrate what students are learning.
