My Students
I used to get so excited on the days that our class went to the computer lab. I didn't realize that I was learning and having fun. My students love getting to play computer games that also help them practice important skills. However, we need a few materials to help us access our new technology.
Many of my students don't have Internet access at home.
In fact, some of them don't even have a computer they can use for learning, research, or fun. I teach in a Title I school, and many of my students do not come to school with the basic supplies they need for learning, such as crayons, pencils, and notebooks. I work very hard to create fun, engaging lessons that will keep my first graders eager to learn new things each day. These students love the opportunity to use the computer for learning. They are engaged in a way that a paper and pencil will never engage them, and they are learning at the same time. Using computers can open up new worlds for my students that they would have never been exposed to otherwise. The opportunities for learning are endless! We recently received funding for new technology for our classroom, and we can't wait to use it! However, we need headphones and other materials so that as many students as possible will be able to access this new technology.
My Project
My students need headphones and an adapter to access the technology we have in our classroom. I would like to have headphones for my students to use while accessing the computers. Our district has purchased programs that the students can use to practice math and literacy skills. However, the noise of several computers at the same time is distracting to my students. They need headphones that they can use while they are using the computers to keep them focused on what they are doing on their computer instead of the one next to them. The headphones help cancel out noise and help my students to perform at their best. If my students can access the technological resources my district has purchased, I know they will make gains in their understanding of math and reading. These headphones will also make it easier for them to use other online educational resources without distractions. Since many of these students can only get online at school, it is important that their online experience be focused on learning.
Our world is driven by technology, and as adults, we sometimes have a difficult time keeping up.
My students often don't even have the opportunity to use new technology except at school. By allowing my students to use computers to learn, I am helping to introduce my students to the vast technological resources out there. With enough headphones for each student, they will be able to focus on the technology they are using and make gains that will propel their learning for years to come.
