My students need bean bag chairs, bar stools and lap desks to create a more comfortable learning environment to deter fidgeting and promote focus in the classroom.
My junior-high English classroom is a place where literature comes to life. Students are introduced to various genres, stories, and characters through multiple forms of literature. They create written compositions that express their knowledge and comprehension of the subject matter.
My students work hard to be successful socially, academically, and athletically; however, many of them face daily challenges inside and outside of school.
My school is located in a low-income, high poverty area in Alabama. Providing my students with a comfortable learning environment would allow many of them an opportunity to clear their minds from worry and focus on learning.
My Project
I have collected and purchased various items to create flexible seating areas within my room; however, I need help acquiring enough materials for my entire classroom. Providing students with flexible seating options will help reduce fidgeting and restlessness in the classroom. Students will have multiple seating options and will be on a rotation schedule, so each group of students will experience all settings within the classroom.
Students will have a more comfortable classroom setting that allows them to relax and remain focused during class.
Bean bags and bar stools will provide various seating areas inside the classroom. The lap desks will allow students to complete their written assignments while sitting comfortably. Each seating area will harbor four to five seats for students. Student collaboration and relevant student discussions will increase because students will be in a close-knit setting with only their group members.
Providing my students with a worry-free, relaxing learning environment will promote school attendance and encourage student performance. Students will look forward to entering a comfortable classroom. They will be less likely to fidget and become restless because they will experience a new seating area weekly.
