This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." Every day my students come ready to learn and apply their new knowledge. Yet, attending a school with little resources makes it difficult to implement the most innovative and effective teaching strategies.
My students attend a historically low performing school and are in desperate need of some transformational changes in how they are educated.
The majority of the students I teach are faced daily with the struggles of poverty, violence, and low expectations. Despite this, my students are profoundly inquisitive. They are resilient and creative beyond belief. They are light-hearted, caring, and vocal. They process and interpret the world with a point of view that only a small portion of our society has the opportunity to witness. I come excited to work every day because there is so much potential and promise with these young minds.
My Project
Oh how time flies! Through my years of teaching and receiving donations I have been gifted some golden resources that I'm asking for again to reach more students. Our technology has grown but as my population of students who do not speak English grows, so does this need. Having personal devices such as tablets allows all students to access learning. For instance, students can translate their work or view educational videos in their native language.
My students love learning new things and staying up to date on science trends.
Super Science magazines grant them this opportunity. For some, their need to move around can get in the way of their love for learning by making it hard to focus. Bouncy Bands have proven to be effective for easing my students' fidgeting ways so I'm requesting enough so that every seat has fidget relief.
Last but certainly not least, a clean classroom guarantees that my students stay healthy and are able to return to class each day. Materials such as Lysol, repellent, and air fresheners will be utilized to keep the classroom a safe learning environment.
More than half of students from low‑income households
