These second graders do the best they can with what they have. They are kind, caring and ready to change the world. Unfortunately, many of these young students have difficulty completing practice assignments at home because of lack of supplies and resources leaving most learning to the classroom where these children are also at a disadvantage compared to their suburban counterparts. The classroom is their home away from home where they can be safe and grow their young minds. My students have young inquisitive minds. They have a huge will and want to learn. Please help provide necessities and aids so these students can prove themselves to the rest of the world how great they can be with the proper tools.
My Project
Most students are required to sit in their seats or the same classroom for up to 7 hours a day. This can be difficult even as an adult. As we see growing rates of ADD, sensory disorders and other diagnosis with similar symptoms our classes are in more need than ever to provide the ability to move and fidget to keep focus.
Allowing young students to move adds more comfort and longer attention spans and ultimately leads to greater retainment of important information and enjoyment of school.
These tools lead to better behavior and an enjoyment of learning. This is especially true on bad weather days when students are unable to get outside and exercise.
As we near the cooler months it it’s imperative our classroom is equipped with enough flexible seating and focus tools for each student. Our classroom currently has a few flexible seats and a couple focus items which ultimately leads to jealous and a feeling of unfairness. I would like every student to have the opportunity to focus and learn comfortably.
