My Students

My students in Southeast DC are intelligent and have immeasurable potential. They are immersed in intense and rigorous academic instruction daily. However, they have few outlets for their innate creativity. They are self-taught visual artists, photographers, designers: doodling away white spaces and making their own styles.

In a part of the city that isn't known for beauty, my students' create magnificent expressions of their community and school.

They eagerly soak up everything they can learn about photography and graphic design.

My Project

In today's world, my students are very used to snapping pictures, particularly selfies, anywhere and everywhere. Those who want to hone their creative skills, however, do not have access to high quality equipment that helps them further those interests.

With access to one more DSLR camera, Yearbook students will have the opportunity to effectively document the beautiful memories they encounter in our school and community.

Having the right tools to better capture these moments will not only enrich their learning experience, but it will also allow them to accurately portray each of the members of our school community and their unique activities and accomplishments.
