Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The "Sky Explorers" project empowers students from lower socioeconomic backgrounds in grades 3-5 to actively participate in resolving real-world environmental issues using kid-friendly drones. By engaging in this project, students will learn to identify and analyze problems: using drones to observe and collect data on local environmental issues such as litter accumulation or plant health. Secondly, with the data gathered, students will brainstorm and propose practical solutions, fostering critical thinking and creativity. Lastly, by working in groups, students will improve their workforce readiness skills using teamwork and communication skills. They will also present their findings and solutions to peers, teachers, and the community, enhancing their public speaking and presentation abilities.
The primary goal of the "Sky Explorers" project is to promote inclusivity and opportunity providing equitable learning opportunities for students from lower socioeconomic backgrounds, helping to bridge educational gaps.
In addition, I want to encourage students to become stewards of their community by understanding and addressing local environmental issues. This will help develop students' ability to think critically and solve problems, skills that are essential for future academic and career success.
My students are special because even though they face challenges associated with their lower socioeconomic status, they possess an innate curiosity and eagerness to learn. I want them to understand that their backgrounds contribute to a rich tapestry of ideas and approaches to problem-solving. They can use their experiences and culture to foster creativity and innovation, making their contributions to real-world solutions both unique and impactful. My kids (students) are special because THEY are the next generation of innovators and community leaders.
