Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Most of my students in Corona Queens are Hispanic and most of the families are have challenges economically and financially. Compounding this, about 3 quarter have special learning challenges and are placed in ICT's that require academic help and modifications. The pandemic only makes the problem worst. However, despite the challenges that my students face, everyone has shown positive interest, curiosity and scientific inclination. They like to participate in scientific investigation and STEM activities. Help them excel in understanding and exploring their environment and community from an aerial perspective. Who knows, they might have an interest and awareness on how to keep their environment green and clean!
My Project
There's no better way to make our young learners be aware of the many different issues in their environment and its surrounding community and this is through the lens and technology of a drone flight. This tool will give them a bird's eye view of it all from above which will facilitate several key teachable moments. First, it will help them understand the physical nature and relationship of the different places in their neighborhood and how these different structures affect the other ecologically. Second, the opportunity will bring forth awareness and interest in helping to keep their community clean and green. Third, it will not only provide a fun way of learning but further provide an opportunity to stimulate interest for flight and earth science!
