Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Teach the children well and let them lead the way," this line is from Greatest Love of All, by Michael Masser and Linda Creed. I firmly believe what the song says. We must teach the children well as they are the future of this country and we will need to depend on them to lead the way into a bright future.

My students come from very diverse backgrounds.

They also have diverse ability levels. We are in a large school district that has been severely hit by budget cuts. We have very few supplies and there is definitely no money to be spent on "extras". My class is full of curious students who love to learn through hands-on lessons. They are bright and enjoy learning. They need exposure to lessons that cannot be taught using just the materials supplied by our district.

My Project

I want to give my class the opportunity to read a novel from cover to cover. Island of the Blue Dolphins is a book they will enjoy. It is also intriguing as it is based on a real person. The students will learn language arts easily and in a fun way through the reading of this book.

The love of a good book is something I want to instill in my students!

This novel will help me do that. I believe that this book will instill an interest and enjoyment in reading in my students. Students who enjoy reading are more likely to read. Reading, in turn, improves their comprehension, spelling, vocabulary, writing, and much more.

The teacher resource book will help me teach language arts through the reading of the novel. The Teachers Pay Teachers (TPT) gift cards will do the same as I can get many amazing resources related to the novel on TPT.
