This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The fluent reader sounds good, is easy to listen to, and reads with enough expression to help the listener understand and enjoy the material. - Charles Clark My goal is to have every first grader fluent by the year's end.

I teach at a very diverse, multicultural school.

We are a title one school with over 29 languages represented on our campus. In my first grade class all of my students are bilingual, with four different languages represented. Our school is in a low income neighborhood but full of eager, creative learners. In our district the goal is to have all children excelling and ready for college. We follow the common core standards to ensure that all students are getting the same quality education.

My Project

With the fluency in flash books I will be able to target specific skills needed by each individual student. The timed sight words will allow my struggling readers engaging word practice. The timer and improved reading will be an enormous motivational tool. The partner practice stories will allow for scaffolded instruction of students and much needed partner speaking. I have students at all levels and this will be an asset to push them all to the next level of success. The reader trackers will help each child focus on the targeted reading for a more efficient use of reading time. Each of these tools will help bring my students to the next level of fluency.

To read is to fly: it is to soar to a point of vantage which gives a view over wide terrains of history, human variety, ideas, shared experience and the fruits of many inquiries.

My students need and deserve every chance at success possible. With your help we can make this happen.
