Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Middle schools are very antsy and need to move around a lot, especially when sitting in classrooms for long periods of time. My classroom is a flexible seating classroom that is filled with floor seats, counter stools, wobble chairs and cushions, fidget bands, and rolling chairs. I know that students feel safe and comfortable in my classroom and a huge reason for that is the access to flexible seating. A popular space in my classroom for years has been the front open floor area where students can lay down, sit on stools, or sit in comfortable plush chairs. That space is in need of a new rug, work table, and cushions to replaced ripped ones.
Providing students with comfortable spaces to sit and work helps to keep them focused and on task while also helping them to feel safe in class.
I want to continue to encourage students to move around in class because I have seen them be more successful when they are able to. I hope to ensure that students continue to have safe, comfortable, and useful seating options in our space so that are able to focus and be successful in class.
