Floor It! Flexible Seating to Fuel Our Learning

My Project

My fifth graders are learning to take ownership of their education, and part of that journey includes understanding how their environment impacts their ability to focus and succeed.

The cushioned floor seats and lap desks will play a key role in helping my students learn how to use flexible seating appropriately and responsibly.

These resources will give them the opportunity to make thoughtful choices about where and how they work best—whether they need a quiet corner to focus independently or a comfortable space to collaborate with a partner.

This is especially important for my students with disabilities, who may struggle with attention, sensory needs, or physical comfort. Flexible seating options provide them with the chance to move, self-regulate, and find positions that help them feel calm and ready to learn. For these students, having access to appropriate seating isn’t just helpful—it’s essential.

With these tools, all of my students will be empowered to build self-awareness, independence, and the skills they need to manage their learning environment in a way that supports their growth.
