This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As a high school special needs teacher I'm always looking for material that my students will connect with. Often we emphasize the skills we're teaching over the content/topic since teenager engagement can be difficult. However, using Flocabulary is a little different.
Flocabulary offers a wide variety of academic, current events, and even Social Emotional Learning/Well Being lessons to benefit my students.
Some of the most effective videos I've used in the past have been "Managing Frustration," "Building Empathy," and "Self Compassion." These aren't typically presented topics, but nonetheless much needed.
I can't count the number of times that my students won't remember a reading we did a few days ago but will remember a Flocabulary topic we briefly discussed months earlier. The program helps my students succeed and they'll appreciate the opportunity to keep using it.
There is a focus on vocabulary words (often words adults don't use in their everyday lives, let alone students) through repetition that helps students retain information in higher instances than typically presented lessons.
