Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As a high school special needs teacher I'm always looking for material that my students will connect with. Often we emphasize the skills we're teaching over the content/topic since teenagers don't seem to have an interest in much. However, using Flocabulary is a little different.
Flocabulary has proven to help my students connect with a variety of topics and vocabulary using music.
Their beat and the ability to print out lyrics help them engage in topics they normally wouldn't. The focus on vocabulary words (often words adults don't use in their everyday lives, let alone students) through repetition helps them retain the information.
I can't count the number of times that my students won't remember a reading we did a few days ago but will remember a Flocabulary topic we briefly discussed months earlier. The program helps my students succeed and they'll appreciate the opportunity to keep using it.
