This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The kids in my class in Austin, TX are spunky, outgoing, and creative! They crave engaging academics and thrive when their learning is hands-on and relevant. Many of them are performers! Some love to dance while others love to sing, rap, tell jokes, write stories, and keep a steady beat. I have many artists in my classroom as well, who enjoy drawing, crafting, and even coding!

Their joy and enthusiasm are paramount to their academic and personal success.

As technology moves forward daily, we struggle to keep up with the latest tools and trends to satisfy their ever-increasing curiosity. I want them to be excited about coming to school, which will be partially achieved with this project.

My Project

I will be using Flocabulary several times per week to supplement my student's understanding of concepts across the curriculum. This digital resource is outstanding!

Flocabulary takes content that can be abstract and potentially boring, and formats it into engaging raps and songs that are catchy and increase comprehension.

For example, when studying the elements of a story, this group of talented curriculum writers came up with the following rap.

"Plot, Character, Conflict, Theme, Setting

Yes, these are the five things

that you're gonna be needing

when you're reading

or writing

a short story that's mad exciting!"

Kids relate to the use of rhythm and rhyme, plus they love the beats! This resource spans across all content areas, making it a teacher's best friend in terms of student buy-in.
