Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our students have an extended school day and an extended school year. They are taught the Common Core standards through a vigorous and rounded curriculum. Every student takes math, science, English, history, physical education, and enrichment. Students participate in a variety of extracurricular opportunities and events throughout the year, including clubs. Moreover, the majority of our students attend our after-school program to get homework help and tutoring.
Our students come to an open and caring environment, even during virtual learning.
We celebrate learning and success in our school. They are so eager to come to school every day. I just want them to get what they came for: an excellent education!
My Project
Due to the Pandemic, this has been a trying year for all of us. Teaching and learning are now virtual, bringing many challenges for everyone involved. As a teacher, I have to use all my tools and resources to make learning interesting, engaging, and authentic for my students. As a reflective teacher, I know that when something doesn't work, it is time for a change. My school is doing the best they can to provide me and my fellow teachers with resources to provide our scholars with a high-quality education. However, I need to do everything I can to keep lessons engaging and fun for them.
Flocabulary is a web-based learning platform for all subjects, K-12 that uses educational hip-hop to engage students and increase achievement.
As a veteran teacher, I have used Flocabulary in previous years. Flocabulary, academic vocabulary, content knowledge, and social-emotional skills are incorporated across the curriculum to help students develop these skills through the school day.
Flocabulary’s approach to standards-based material makes content engaging and accessible for ELLs–regardless of setting. Through multisensory exposures and diverse instructional activities, Flocabulary reinforces content-area knowledge and essential vocabulary development.
Flocabulary's multimodal approach to standards-based instruction offers a variety of entry points to teaching the relevant curriculum. Music provides a powerful foundation for learners of all abilities to access and connect with academically rigorous content. Flocabulary’s supportive structure ensures all students are able to learn and are motivated to create.
Students love music. They love flocabulary because it is relevant to them, it makes learning fun and it engages them in an exciting way.
