My students need 4 Flip Video cameras to document work in science class, to create prducts, and to do video data analysis.

My Students
I am building a 21st century classroom in a school in a rural, poverty-stricken area. We have a tight school budget so I must bring in money from outside whenever possible to enhance what I'm doing in my classroom. My students love to make videos but I only have one video camera.
My students are amazing and I love working where I do.
However, traditional instruction does not capture their imagination. I'm always looking for ways to get them excited to learn science.
My school is located in a rural area on an Indian reservation. Poverty is very real for my students and our school budget reflects the poverty of the area. My goal is to allow students to escape that poverty during the time they are in my classroom. In doing this, I hope to prepare my students for the world that awaits them when they leave the reservation to go to college or into careers. I hope that they may someday bring their knowledge and skills back with them to make their home a better place for future generations.
Our school is a small 7-12 public school at which I am the only full time science teacher in the high school. I teach biology, chemistry and physics and touch all of our students at some point during high school. Many of them have me for 2 or 3 years, so my impact is large.
My Project
I am requesting Flip Video cameras so that my students can make videos in science class. They can use these videos as part of a project or to show understanding of a concept. They can also post these videos to their blogs for friends, families and peers to see. This gives them another way to show their knowledge and understanding without traditional paper and pencil type products, which do not engage their interest.
We can also use the cameras to take videos for data analysis via a software program that I already have. Unfortunately, with only one video camera, it is difficult to use the video analysis software very often. Furthermore, all video needs to pass through a time-consuming conversion process in order to be compatible with our data analysis software.
I can also use these Flip video cameras to document activities that we are doing in class to share with families, the public, or even with students who miss class.
My goal is for my students to learn to love science!
This project is important because my students deserve the very best, most engaging instruction that I can provide.
They deserve a student-centered, technology-rich classroom. Being able to create and use videos is one great way to make this vision a reality.
If my students can develop a love for science, then they will learn a tremendous amount. I truly believe that getting students to engage with content in a way that they find exciting leads to deeper, longer lasting learning.
