The students in my classroom work hard each day. Students love to share their writing and the Flip Video will provide a way to record their stories and then the students will be able watch the videos right after I take them.
I teach all subjects to a diverse first grade class at a high performing school.
Learners in my classroom range from emergent to gifted and all levels in between. My students are enthusiastic and work very hard. We use the Writing and Reading Workshop programs from Teacher's College at Columbia University.
My Project
Students LOVE to share their writing and the Flip video will provide a way to record their stories and create digital classroom DVDs in which students are videoed reading their own stories out loud. In addition, my students are learning how to read expressively. Taking video of them reading books will allow them to see themselves reading and evaluate areas where they can improve on their oral expression. Students often don't get a chance to see themselves working and learning and taking video will increase their motivation and engagement.
In order to do all of this I need a video camera.
The flip video camera is a compact video that will hook directly into my classroom computer so that we watch the videos right after we take them. Seeing and hearing themselves reading their original stories will help my students become stronger writers as they will be able to evaluate how their stories sound. Additionally, they will be able to consider how to improve their reading so that it is more expressive.
