My project will bring books into the classroom library that are designed to align with the phonics and phonemic awareness skills that my second grade students are learning. The books will be used for explicit instruction as well as for students to read in the classroom. These special phonics books will help students to develop phonics skills, decode words, and gain confidence in their reading abilities.
Reading research supports that readers need explicit phonics instruction to help them become successful readers.
Phonics Tales books will unlock the door to reading success with an engaging set of read-aloud storybooks that teach key phonics skills including short and long vowels, vowel pairs, blends, digraphs, and more. Each engaging story features a phonics riddle and a motivating phonics skill to reinforce learning. The flip book of word families will make learning fun for small groups. As students turn the pages of the hands-on flip books, they will match letters, blends, and digraphs with ending sounds. The students will enjoy the flip books, because they include a specific pattern that provides opportunities to practice the phonics skill.
Your support in this project is very much appreciated and will provide the opportunity for high-quality, purposeful, and intentional books and tools to be in the hands of my growing readers!
