My students need a digital platform that can create "flipped" lessons. These are lessons that are based on the student led instruction model and are recorded to share with their peers, tutoring, and other classes.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is just going into its third year. We definitely still have that new feel! Being new is wonderful, but it comes with its own interesting set of issues, such as a lack of supplies and funding after the initial start funds ended. Our students were transferred to our school from different areas around the district; therefore, they are from a variety of backgrounds. We have a wide range of incomes and an ethnically diverse population. Classrooms will all be at full capacity this year, serving nearly 1,000 students.

Another large portion of our students are from non-English speaking families, thus we are labeled as a bilingual campus.

Added to this mix are our special needs and military students. Put all of this together, and you get a school of wonderful students who often struggle academically, with many below grade level. We are all working together to make this an amazingly successful upcoming year for all our precious students.

My Project

The flipped classroom idea has students creating and directing their own version of their understanding. They can create virtual field trips, demonstrate a real life scenario for a math commercial or perhaps do a recreation of a battle scene from the Alamo. The IPad lessons will help them and their peers gain a higher level of comprehension.

The student becomes the teacher by creating their own engaging video lesson with the use of an iPad.

Students learn more efficiently and effectively when they can hear lessons repeated, taught by a fellow peer, and given multiple chances to understand the learning objective.

The use of an iPad created lesson will help my students stay engaged in their learning and become educators themselves.
