My Students
My learners and I have embarked on a new method of learning in which they watch lectures at home on the computer and come to school to work hands on with materials in class. They are very excited and they want to produce their own lectures to teach each other.
These students are engaged and exited about learning.
It is a real rarity for 8th grade learners to be so exited about history. Technology and making connections fuels that engagement. These students live in a half rural half urban community with many below the poverty line. I have one class in which all of my students have a computer at home and have learned that a flipped classroom has many benefits for them. They are so excited that they want to leave a legacy behind and create a series of presentations to teach future students.
My Project
We have most of the materials that we need to accomplish the goal that my learners have set for themselves of becoming creators of information. The only thing that we really need is a decent video camera with which they can record their lectures and other video projects.
As we drive further into the 21st century these students will need to be able to create and manipulate information to share it effectively with others.
The simple gift of a digital camera can enable them to remain engaged enthusiastic and learning.
