This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember sitting in school and having to listen to your teacher read from the text book? Wouldn't you have rather been able to interact with your classmates to learn the material? My students deserve this opportunity!
The students in my classroom are sponges wanting to soak in all the learning that is being put forth for them.
Our school is 89% Hispanic and 99% free lunch. We are located in a great town with a big university, but our students haven't been given the experiences that many other children have had around us. Our school is very unique because we are partnered with the university; this is a great way for our students to be exposed to more support and opportunities. Also, we are a SEM (School-wide Enrichment Model) which means we teach gifted strategies to all of our students, not just our identified students. We have a lot of problem-solving based learning going on in our school, which is great for our students. Along with being SEM all of the teachers must be gifted-endorsed to teach at our school. Overall, we are a wonderful school with a lot of authentic learning going on.
My Project
With the use of a Flip camera in our classroom we will be able to take learning to the next level. I would like the students to be able to use the Flip camera to go deeper with their experiences. Putting on plays and skits are a great way for students to learn the material in a more hands on way. News reports are another way the Flip camera could be used in our classroom. Their own personal learning styles can come out of this. Whether the students like to write the plays or skits, or the student who likes to design the props and costumes, or the student who likes to direct and produce. The Flip camera can also take their work and make it more "official". They can share their work with other students learning the same material or with their parents and friends to show off their hard work.
When choosing this project here at Donors Choose you will be helping to make a child's learning experiences more memorable, fun and authentic.
Learning from text books is old school, we need to be "new" school in our classroom and you can help us do this! :)
