Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach Chemistry to a diverse group of artistic students at a Title I-funded, visual and performing arts school in downtown Los Angeles. Students come to our school from all over the city to receive a top-notch education in both academics and their chosen art form (music, dance, visual or theater) and go on to study at some of the top academic colleges and art schools across the country. When my students start reading about all of the chemicals they come into contact with every day, they are surprised, curious, and eager to learn more!
I am always looking for ways to motivate my students in my classroom with innovative and exciting learning opportunities.
With the introduction of Next Generation Science Standards into classrooms across America, science instruction needs to change.
This chart paper and markers will dramatically change how science is discussed in my classroom. With these materials, students will create argument poster presentations after they complete an inquiry lab analyzing data and will connect that data to the lab's guiding question. These presentations are essential to deepen my students' understanding of key scientific concepts as they design and implement their own inquiry.
My class is focusing on engineering design this year to promote problem solving to some of our most important scientific challenges in our society. With this chart paper and markers, my artistic students will have an appropriate outlet to express their understanding of science in my classroom. This project is going to be so great for my students, thank you for contributing!
