My Project
Have you ever wondered how drones have become a game-changer in search and rescue missions? Their role is critical, not only in saving lives but also in shaping the future of technology-driven problem-solving. Each mission tells a unique story—one that invites creativity, critical thinking, and real-world applications of math and coding.
Our innovative "Flight of the Coordinates" unit places students at the heart of such a mission, starting in Fairmount Park, Philadelphia.
Through hands-on learning, students will connect coordinate graphing, area, perimeter, and coding with drone operation, applying their mathematical skills in a way that mirrors real-world rescue efforts.
But this unit is about more than just math—it encourages students to critically examine the broader impact of drone technology, addressing important social issues often left out of traditional discussions:
-Privacy concerns in underprivileged communities
-The relationship between drones, policing, and public trust
-The accessibility gap in drone technology and innovation
By engaging with these topics, students will see themselves reflected in the math they do, exploring connections to drone technology and the business owners who are members of the global majority. They will also investigate the barriers faced by lower-income individuals in becoming licensed UAV pilots, highlighting the inequities in technology access and career pathways.
With your support, we can provide students with the tools, needed to make this experience impactful. Your donation will help fund drone kits, ensuring that our students are equipped not only to grasp these complex concepts but also to envision themselves as future innovators in this field.
Math should be a gateway to opportunity, not a barrier. Your contribution will help make this a reality, empowering the next generation of problem-solvers and changemakers.
