My Project
I want to offer my scholars more opportunities to move freely and work in different spaces within the classroom. Additionally, to promote their interest in reading, I would like to offer them more graphic novels and high-interest chapter books.
"Mrs. Pietro, can I sit over there?" is typically what is said when I introduce my scholars to their independent practice assignment for the day.
Of course, I always tell my students I do not mind where they sit as long as they work intently. With that being said, I currently do not have enough flexible seating options to meet the needs of all of my scholar's learning styles.
This year, my enthusiastic third graders prefer to sit away from their desks during independent time, so I would like to offer them comfort in doing so. Items such as the wobble cushions and floor pillow will allow them their own flexible space to continue working and stay focused on the task at hand. With the wobble chair bouncers, I can turn a normal chair at my small group table into a 'fun place' to be.
Sprucing up my classroom library with appealing texts will offer my scholars more relatable titles to choose from that have the right balance of pictures and content to keep emerging readers engaged.
While students are in their flexible spaces, they will need a clipboard to help keep their activities in place. Allowing them to choose their own workspace, clipboard color, and fidget strip will surely provide them a sense of independence and allow them to focus on their task.
