Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My sixth grade students are highly motivated to do well! They are each individuals with unique needs and abilities, and offering flexible seating options for work time will allow them to meet their sensory needs while accessing high-level content and growing both individually and as a community.
Each type of seating on the list will either create a new seating option or fill in gaps in the current options to make an entire group of 5 of each seating type.
Having groups of 5 for each seat type allows an entire group of students to work together at the same level and/or allows for mix-and-match seating to help students sit in a way that helps them focus no matter what their group mates choose.
As students are given choices in their school day, their independence rises. They also begin to self-monitor their needs and what works best for them in the classroom and as life-long learners. Flexible seating is one tool for this growth and development.
