I am a 5th-grade teacher in a low-income area, in Brooklyn, NY, teaching children who attend a Title I school.
My students are bright, responsible, energetic, and curious to explore and learn new things.
Despite the many challenges of this upcoming school year, my students are all excited to be in school, and in-person! A school is a safe place for them to learn and grow, and my wish is to continue to make it safe for them mentally, academically, and physically. Materials donated via DonorsChoose.org will truly be beneficial for their educational journey and help keep them motivated as we embark on another unprecedented school year!
My Project
Many times we need a change of scenery when learning and something as simple as bringing the workspace to the floor is not only fun but also conducive to learning! The Flex Seats on this wishlist will do just that for my students. In addition, having a few of these seats, within the classroom gives students the option to bring the work down to the floor if they choose, when working independently. In those moments instead of sitting on the actual floor, these seats provide a sanitary way to "get low". Flexible classrooms give students a choice in what kind of learning space works best for them and helps them to work collaboratively, communicate, and engage in critical thinking.
In addition to the Flex Seats, also included on the list are stickers to serve as motivational incentives, a set of staplers for organization, and two math themed books which include Cool Math Games and 40+ Fun Art Projects to help Build Amazing Math Skills.
