My incoming students for September ROCK! They are a bright group of students from Flatbush, Brooklyn, NY coming into a Gifted Classroom Setting. They have worked super hard all the way from Kindergarten to 4th Grade and are entering 5th Grade this September as Seniors and Leaders of the school. These boys and girls are resilient, even though they're at a disadvantage economically speaking. These kids are super ready to grow and learn however our physical classroom lacks flexible seating options.
My Project
Many times we need a change of scenery when learning and something as simple as bringing the work space to the floor is not only fun but also conducive to learning! In addition, having a few of these seats, within the classroom gives students the option to bring the work down to the floor if they choose, when working independently. Flexible classrooms give students a choice in what kind of learning space works best for them, and helps them to work collaboratively, communicate, and engage in critical thinking. In fact, studies have shown that flexible seating options promotes students' growth in grades and students seem happier and more engaged. Furthermore, students working in an environment with flexible seating participate more and have more invigorating conversations.
