My students need flexible seating in the classroom in the form of wobble chairs, yoga balls, reclining seats, and bouncy bands to help them become more productive and active learners.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Coming from a low-income/high poverty school district, many of my students face so many challenges in and outside of school. I want the classroom to be one less challenge for them to face when they walk in the room. Every day I want to be able to provide my students with the resources to have creative and meaningful learning experiences, and to be able to make their own choices.
The students in my classroom are creative, curious, active learners.
I may not have control over the environment my students grow up in or their home lives, but I want to create a classroom community where they feel empowered to solve problems, make choices, and strive for excellence.
My Project
When you walk into a coffee shop or restaurant you are always given the option of where you want to sit and you typically choose a place that you feel the most comfortable. I want to incorporate flexible seating into my classroom so that my students also have that feeling of a safe environment and a place that they can work to their best ability. Bringing wobble chairs, yoga balls, recliner seats, and bouncing bands to my class will help my students become more productive learners, and will also prepare them for real world experiences where they have more choices,
By creating a classroom environment with more choices it gives the students a sense of ownership in their own education.
Allowing students to wobble, rock, bounce, lean, or stand helps increase oxygen flow to the brain, as well as create more alert and focused minds. These different seating options will help increase collaboration, community, and a commitment to learning. I can't wait to see the looks on my kids faces when they have the option to choose where they would like to work, and still have fun learning at the same time!
