My Students
Teaching in a low-income/Title 1 school means that the many of our students are coming to school with emotional baggage. This can make it incredibly hard for them to learn. No matter if it is being hungry, excessively tired, or having difficulties at home, it is my job as an educator to provide a positive, loving and supporting environment that encourages learning and growth.
The students at our school are bright, inquisitive, compassionate and loving and deserve to learn in an environment that is conducive to their unique learning styles and allows them to reach their full potential.
These students continue to shoot for the stars in their dreams and aspirations no matter what hand they have been dealt. They are truly inspiring individuals who deserve the best opportunity to learn.
My Project
Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. Every day students will have the opportunity to choose where they sit and which seat they will use for the day. Currently, my students work at desks with bouncy bands, sit on stools or sit on yoga balls while they work. This project would complete my classroom's flexible seating, allowing for more options for the students to get comfortable and focus while they work. I have found that comfort and choice are incredible motivators for my students. When they have the opportunity to choose flexible seating, students are more engaged and completing higher quality and quantity of work!
My students are happier, less disruptive, produce more work and are more engaged when they are given a choice of where and how to work.
The resources I have requested will give my students more seating options which will give them more opportunities to make smart choices for their learning. I have also included some other items to make the learning environment more conducive to all students in addition to the seats. I am hoping to reduce fluorescent lighting by adding lamps throughout the classroom. I have also included pillows for students to use while they work on the ground.
I have seen the benefit of allowing students to choose where and how they sit. These resources will complete my classroom's flexible seating options and will help these amazing students continue to grow!
