This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our elementary school is a Title 1 school and is home to a diverse population of students. I love that the majority of my students have been exposed to the Leader in Me program. For the last few years, I have experimented with giving students clipboards and cushions and allowing students the choice of working on the gathering carpet or on the floor during independent work time. I have seen the benefits of flexible seating firsthand.

Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning, boosts engagement, and allows some of my more active friends to remain focused on their daily tasks.

Making sure students are comfortable in the classroom is an essential component of motivating them. I would like to extend this improvement in learning to my small group. I believe that by using wobble stools during the re-teach or small group time students will be more successful in mastering concepts that they previously struggled with.

The second component of my project is for Seat Pocket Organizers for regular desk chairs. I would like to help my little humans be better organized and keep track of their stuff by having a designated spot for their everyday classroom materials.
