My Project

I’m requesting flexible seating options to create a learning environment where all of my first graders feel welcomed, supported, and ready to learn in a way that fits their unique needs.

Research shows that flexible seating improves student achievement, emotional regulation, social skills, and physical activity.

When students are given choices in how and where they sit, they take ownership of their learning and develop a stronger sense of belonging in the classroom.

The items I’m requesting- wobble chairs, bean bags, wobble cushions, and balance balls- are specifically chosen to support the diverse needs of my students:

- Wobble Chairs: stimulate movement and require core engagement, helping students, especially those with ADD or ADHD, focus while staying active.

- Bean Bags: provide a cozy, inclusive space for all students and are great for reading, group work, or calming down. They reduce stress and promote better posture.

- Wobble Cushions: help calm anxious energy and improve concentration, particularly for students with autism or sensory needs.

- Balance Balls: promote collaboration while improving focus through gentle movement.

Each seating tool not only supports physical activity but also helps develop Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF), a protein that promotes the growth of new neurons, boosting cognitive development and learning.
