My Project

As a 6th and 7th grade Special Day Class teacher, I have the incredible opportunity to work with students who face unique challenges in their learning journeys. Many of my students struggle with attention, focus, and executive functioning, which often makes traditional classroom settings and materials overwhelming or inaccessible.

Incorporating more flexible seating in the classroom will help create a calm, structured, and responsive learning environment where students felt safe and empowered to engage.

With the several options we have for flexible seating, I have seen students who normally shut down during lessons start participating more frequently, asking questions, and even supporting their peers. A student who used to get up and pace the classroom during instruction was able to remain seated and focused for longer periods using a wobble cushion and fidget band. I am requesting stools and floor pillows. These changes, though small in appearance, had a tremendous impact on their academic and emotional progress.
