Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am the Academic Engagement Teacher and multilingual teacher at my school. I work with all students from grades pre-k to 6th grade. I teach in a Title I school with a large population of Hispanic students. All of my students receive free lunches and come from low-income families.
My students are eager to learn and explore their world.
They come from diverse backgrounds but mostly come from low-income families. My students also are building other skills needed for their success in my classroom and beyond.
Covid-19 is having educators rethink how students will experience learning at school. Students are in need of resources to help them catch up and to be successful. Each student has to have their own materials for their success and to help them focus on learning.
My Project
Since returning to in-person learning at my school many of my students have been struggling with their learning and anxiety. Flexible seating within my classroom would provide spaces for my students to choose the learning environment that fits them. Wobble chairs and wobble cushions give students the ability to choose their seating.
These items will also help students with their anxiety by giving them the ability to move and exert their nervous energy.
This will help students to focus their energy on learning rather than their anxiety. Flexible seating also would be available for our calming corner and still awhile for them to focus on themselves and their work.
