This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come to school eager to learn! My school is a Title I school. We are in a very low income neighborhood, with 98% of the students coming from low-income families. A total of 78.2% students who attend this school are Latino, with a total of 39.4% of student population being English Language Learners.
I'm a Special Education teacher in Chicago Public Schools.
This is my 10th year teaching. The students that I work with have
been diagnosed with Learning Disabilities, Autism, Intellectual Disabilities, Emotional Disturbance, Juvenile Dermatomyositis, and ADHD. I also have experience working with dual language programs and experience working with students learning English. The students that I service are very hard working and kind.
My Project
Time to get cozy, comfortable, and learn! Providing alternate seating arrangements for my special education friends will allow for a more comfortable place to learn. The dull, hard, chairs, get really tiring really quick.
Providing flexible seating arrangements is a great way for students to feel empowered.
My goal is to turn our classroom into different flexible seating options. No one can possible stay still all day, yet children are constantly told to sit and stay still.
By providing these large pillows, students will be allowed to have a choice and learn comfortably.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
