Flexible Seating

Help me give my students a way to stay safe but still make the classroom a fun environment. With flex seating, students do not have to be in their desks all day as they can use a wobble cushion.

My Students

I have 24 students that are learning the love of reading . My job as a first grade teacher is to teach my students to read. I teach in a district where we receive 100% free breakfast as well as lunch. Many of my students come from struggling neighborhoods and need so much more than just what the school can provide. While all my students are learning to read, they are all at different levels. Every child is different and every child should be challenged at their level. As a class we love to play games on the computers, go outside and have fun while learning. This year will be different and new for everyone, I am asking for mats so my students are not at their desk all day and have another way to stretch out and work from some where other then their desk. Six and seven year olds still need down time but this year they need to be apart as much as possible from other students. So providing alternate seating for my students will be a wonderful addition for my classroom.

My Project

Flexible seating is one in which traditional seating charts are replaced with seating arrangements that allow students to sit where they choose. Flexible seating allows students to move furniture and gives them opportunities to work separately or in groups. Flexible seating allows them to move around which increases oxygen flow to the brain, blood flow and core strength. In turn, this burns calories and increases metabolism. It also helps little minds stay more alert and focused. So many benefits from using flexible seating in the classroom. I am excited to see this become a reality in my classroom.
